Short version: Hold one Hilton Aspire, not a stack. Use the resort credit on eligible Hilton Resorts and charge incidentals to the room. Avoid Advance Purchase rates, Small Luxury Hotels of the World, and restaurant tabs billed as a separate merchant. Skip CLEAR+ on purpose in our house. Pay every statement in full.
This is how we run the Hilton Honors Aspire Card we already hold. It is not a ranking, and it is not a reason to open a second Aspire. The Platinum vs Reserve comparison stays on Platinum vs Reserve. For how this card sits next to the rest of the wallet, use the six-card wallet routine. Series index: Use Every Benefit.
PointFam is independent. We are not DoD or any branch. Confirm terms on the issuer site before you rely on a number.
We hold Amex Platinum, Chase Sapphire Reserve, Hilton Aspire, Chase Sapphire Preferred, Delta SkyMiles Reserve, and Citi Double Cash. We do not hold Capital One Venture X. Every card, including Aspire, is on autopay for the full statement balance. Fee relief can change break-even math. It does not change the discipline. If interest is in the picture, most of these credits stop being the point. Longer take: What Dave Ramsey Gets Wrong (And What He Gets Right).

Household use
- We hold: Amex Platinum, Chase Sapphire Reserve, Hilton Aspire, Chase Sapphire Preferred, Delta SkyMiles Reserve, and Citi Double Cash. We do not hold Capital One Venture X.
- We use most years: Aspire resort credit on eligible Hilton Resorts (charge to the room).
- We skip: CLEAR+ most years, even when Aspire lists it.
- Enroll before spend: National Car Rental Emerald Club Executive (enrollment required). Free Night stay-must-complete-by-expiry already sits in the Free Night section below; do not let a certificate sit until it dies.
One Aspire, not a stack
Competitors love multi-Aspire math. We do not. One card is the brand here.
Aspire fits Hilton-heavy travel next to Platinum and Sapphire Reserve. Platinum covers airline fee, hotel halves through Amex Travel, and Uber Cash on other trips. Reserve stays the default plastic for dining and the auto travel credit. Aspire is the Hilton tool: resort credit, Free Night Rewards the card offers, and complimentary Hilton Honors Diamond. We do not open a second Aspire to "double" credits. Caps are per Card Account on the benefits that matter here. Stacking plastics is how a six-card wallet becomes a twelve-card hobby.
House rule, then stop: autopay the full balance. Swipe map and "when six is too many" live on the six-card wallet. This page goes deeper on Aspire alone.
The annual fee on Hilton Honors Aspire is $550. There is no annual fee for Additional Cards. That number matters when fee relief ends. While relief applies, the discipline still does.
Resort credit: how we use it, and the trap list
We actually use the Aspire resort credit. Getting it to post is where people lose money they thought was free.
Shape. Up to $200 in the January through June window and up to $200 in July through December, for up to $400 per calendar year, on eligible purchases made directly with participating Hilton Resorts. Check Hilton's live eligible-resort list before you book. Lists change. Do not assume every Hilton-branded property qualifies.
How we make it count. Book an eligible resort. Stay. Charge the stay and on-property incidentals (restaurants, spa, other room charges) to the room, then pay that folio with the Aspire Card. The credit is for purchases identified as made directly with a participating Hilton Resort. That room-charge step is the difference between a credit and a shrug from Amex.
Trap list (product-specific). Official Aspire benefit terms and Hilton's eligible-hotels page spell out what fails:
- Advance Purchase / Non-Refundable rates. Those rates are not eligible for the resort credit. A cheap prepaid rate that looks like a win can wipe the credit. Read the rate rules before you lock it.
- Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH). SLH stays are not eligible. Hilton marketing and Aspire eligibility are not the same list.
- Separate merchant restaurant or spa charges. If the restaurant or spa bills as its own merchant instead of to the room, the purchase may not identify as a Hilton Resort charge. Ask the front desk to post it to the room. Pay the room with Aspire.
- Wallet, third-party, or mobile-reader paths. Wallet or third-party or mobile-reader transactions may not earn the credit. Prefer a normal Aspire charge on the folio.
We do not chase the credit with a trip we would not take. We use it when Hilton nights were already on the calendar. For the wider Dec 31 vs anniversary problem across cards, use the credits expiring Dec 31 guide and the printable Dec 31 tracker. This page does not absorb that calendar.
Free Night Rewards and Diamond ops
Two benefits show up in every Aspire review. Here is what the card offers. We are not inventing a Free Night redemption story or a "we live Diamond every week" diary.
Annual Free Night Reward. The card includes an annual Free Night Reward, plus spend Free Night Rewards after $30,000 in purchases and after an additional $30,000 (that is, $60,000 total) per calendar year.
Expiry that bites. Annual Free Night Rewards and spend Free Night Rewards expire one year from the date of issuance. Redeem on or before that date or they are forfeited. Hilton Free Night Reward terms also require you to complete the stay by the expiration date. Booking alone is not enough if checkout falls after expiry.
Issuance timing (researched). Aspire benefit terms describe the annual reward email within 8 to 14 weeks after the renewal month, and spend rewards within 8 to 12 weeks after meeting the spend. Watch the Hilton Honors account and the email, not a blog countdown. Fact-Check should reconfirm that timing language on publish-prep day.
Complimentary Hilton Honors Diamond. Aspire includes complimentary Hilton Honors Diamond. Diamond is status, not a second credit card. What matters in practice is property-dependent: upgrades when inventory exists, executive lounge access where offered, late checkout when the hotel can grant it, and the usual elite noise at check-in. We are not turning this into a Diamond marketing dump.
Waldorf Astoria and Conrad property credit (researched). The card also lists up to $100 at Waldorf Astoria and Conrad with a 2-night minimum at the Aspire Card Benefit rate. Treat it as optional path language until we have a lived use line. Confirm it is still on the product page before you plan a stay around it.
Flight credit quarterly, National Emerald, cell phone, and why we skip CLEAR+
Flight credit. Up to $50 each calendar quarter (January through March, April through June, July through September, October through December), up to $200 per calendar year. Eligible: airfare for a scheduled flight purchased directly from an airline or through amextravel.com or the Amex Travel App. Not eligible: charter flights, private jet flights, and flights that are part of vacation packages. Third-party purchases may not qualify. Additional Card purchases count toward the same account cap.
We treat the flight credit as a small quarterly habit when we already buy airfare on Aspire or through Amex Travel. We do not invent a new trip to "use" $50. Unused amounts do not travel to the next quarter in any way you should count on. Track with the Dec 31 credits page and the tracker when you are juggling multiple cards.
CLEAR+ skip. Aspire lists a CLEAR+ credit of up to $219 per calendar year. That credit is per Aspire Card Account, separate from any Platinum CLEAR+ credit on a different Card Account. Our household skips CLEAR+ even when Aspire lists it. Same CLEAR+ skip most years on Platinum (not Global Entry / PreCheck). Skipping is a choice. If your household uses airport biometric lines every week, your math may differ. Ours does not need CLEAR+ to keep Aspire while fee relief applies.
National Car Rental Emerald Club Executive. Aspire lists this status benefit with enrollment required. Enroll before you expect Executive treatment at the counter. Optional if you never rent National. Easy to forget next to resort credit and Free Night noise.
Cell phone protection. Aspire lists cell phone protection in the same family as Platinum: up to $800 per claim with a $50 deductible (plus trip delay of 6+ hours up to $500 per trip, max 2 claims per 12 months; cancellation and interruption up to $10,000 per trip and $20,000 per 12 months). Personal Chase Sapphire Reserve does not list cell phone protection on the product page. If your household is counting on phone protection, put the wireless bill on Aspire or Platinum, not on personal Reserve. Read current terms before you rely on a claim. We are not inventing a claim story here.
Fee relief: one box, call and confirm
Amex publishes a consumer SCRA/MLA FAQ for American Express accounts in general. MLA relief language on that FAQ applies at account opening with no enrollment required for eligible accounts. The FAQ does not literally say the annual fee is "$0." Fee relief is issuer policy on top of the law. Federal rules let issuers leave bona fide, reasonable fees out of the 36% MAPR. That is not a legal order to waive luxury-card fees.
There is no Aspire-specific military page. Whether Aspire gets the same fee outcome as Platinum on your account is call-and-confirm, not a ship-it claim. Soft path only: call Amex military services at 1-866-391-1460 (Mon to Sun 7 am to 11:30 pm ET; collect from outside the U.S.: 1-336-393-1111), ask what applies to your Aspire account, and get the answer in writing. Do not ship secondary "Aspire MLA auto $0" claims.
Amex sends a notification letter at least 45 days before relief ends, then resumes applicable fees. Amex also periodically reviews accounts for continued eligibility. For spouse primary accounts and DEERS footing, use military spouse cards. For what happens when active duty ends, use leaving active duty.
After the fee returns
When relief ends, model Aspire against the real $550 annual fee. Keep the card only if Hilton nights, resort credits you will actually use, Free Night value you will redeem before expiry, and Diamond utility clear that fee for your household. If Hilton is no longer the hotel brand you book, Aspire is an easy cut.
Do not keep a $550 card for a CLEAR+ line you skip or a Free Night you will let expire. Exit steps, points timing, and utilization notes live on leaving active duty. Hilton Honors points have a separate 24-month inactivity rule in Hilton terms; canceling a cobrand alone is not listed as an instant wipe, but unused points can still forfeit under that activity rule. Confirm current Hilton language before you act.
Earn map (short)
Earn is why Aspire sits next to Hilton stays. This is not a CPP sermon.
- 14X Hilton Honors points on purchases made directly with hotels and resorts in the Hilton portfolio.
- 7X on flights booked direct or through Amex Travel, car rentals from select companies, and U.S. restaurants.
- 3X on other eligible purchases.
Dining at 7X on Aspire is Hilton Honors points, not Ultimate Rewards. Sapphire Reserve dining is 3X Ultimate Rewards. Same restaurant can look like "more X" on Aspire and still be a different currency. We do not invent a cents-per-point conversion on this page. Choose the plastic for the currency you are trying to earn that month, not for a screenshot multiplier.
When we are not on a Hilton folio or an Aspire flight-credit purchase, Reserve or another wallet card usually takes the swipe. That division of labor is the six-card wallet, not a second Aspire.
