Short version: Uber Eats counts. You do not need a ride. Add your eligible Platinum Card directly in the Uber account (not Apple Pay or PayPal), wait up to 48 hours for Cash to appear, then at checkout keep Uber Cash toggled on with an American Express Card selected. Burn unused Amex Benefit Cash before 11:59 PM Hawaii Standard Time on the last day of the month. Keep this monthly Cash deposit separate from the $120 Uber One statement credit.

This page does not claim whether we burn Cash on Uber Eats vs rides only, which order types we place, tip habits, or month-end rituals. The numbers (amount, December bump, evaporate)
On U.S. Consumer Platinum, Uber Cash is up to $200 per year: $15 each month, plus a $20 bonus in December ($35 total that December). Eleven months at $15 is $165; December at $35 brings the year to $200. Stick to that calendar.
Unused monthly Cash does not roll. Official benefit terms: Uber Cash received through the Amex Benefit expires at 11:59 PM Hawaii Standard Time on the last day of each calendar month. Unused Amex Benefit Cash will not carry over to the following month. The December bump still faces the same month-end evaporate for that December deposit. Monthly evaporate is the sharper trap than calendar-year language. Link your year-end plan to credits expiring Dec 31 and the Dec 31 tracker.
If the Amex Benefit Cash portion is missing from your Uber Cash balance by 5:00 PM Hawaii Standard Time on the first day of the month, call the number on the back of the Card.
Does Uber Eats count? (yes, no ride needed)
Yes. No ride required.

Amex $200 Uber Cash benefit terms: redeem with an Amex Card selected and Uber Cash toggled on. If your Uber Cash balance does not cover the full cost of your ride or order, the Amex Card selected for the transaction is charged the difference. The Amex Benefit may be applied to any services to which Uber permits Uber Cash to be applied.
Uber Amex partner page: eligible rides and orders in the US where Uber Cash is accepted, with dedicated Uber Eats checkout steps (create order, checkout, toggle Uber Cash on, select Amex Card, place order).
Uber Help (Uber Eats article): can be used for rides and orders in the U.S.; steps include creating an order in the Uber Eats or Postmates app.
Amex Credit Intel (updated April 9, 2026): eligible rides with Uber and orders with Uber Eats in the U.S.; Cash can be used for rides or for delivery through Uber Eats.
Official Amex and Uber pages for this benefit do not list named ride products (for example UberX, Comfort, or Black). Stick to: any U.S. ride or order where Uber permits Uber Cash, with an Amex Card selected and Uber Cash toggled on. Do not invent product-line exclusions.
Postmates: Terms and Uber Help include the Postmates app alongside Uber / Uber Eats for receiving and redeeming. Mention as an official path if it is still live for your account; do not invent Postmates-vs-Eats differences.
How to receive Uber Cash (add Card; not Amex Benefits enroll)
This is not the same enrollment pattern as Resy, airline fee, or lululemon (Amex Benefits section). For Uber Cash you add the Card in Uber.
- Download or update the latest Uber, Uber Eats, and/or Postmates app.
- Add the eligible Platinum Card as a payment method directly in the Uber account (Wallet / Add Payment Method).
- Wait up to 48 hours for the Amex Benefit to appear in the Uber Cash balance. If it is missing after 48 hours, call the number on the Card.
- Keep Card details and apps up to date. If Card details change, update them in Uber before the end of the current month or you may need to re-enroll.
- To redeem: Uber Cash toggled on plus an American Express Card selected as the payment method for that ride or order.
What blocks the deposit (from terms):
- Cards added through a third party or electronic wallet such as Apple Pay or PayPal are not eligible to receive the Amex Benefit.
- One eligible Platinum or Centurion Card receives the Amex Benefit on one Uber account only. If the same Card is on multiple Uber accounts, only the first account gets the deposit.
- The Card Account must not be canceled or past due.
- The Benefit may only be used in the United States.
Switching which Uber account receives Cash: Uber Amex FAQ: delete the Card from the account that should stop receiving it, add the Card to the desired account, and complete that by 12am ET on the 1st of the month. Uber Help: the switch applies starting the 1st of the next month. Treat those as two clocks: the switch deadline vs when the new account starts receiving Cash.
Checkout checklist (Eats path)
From Uber Amex FAQ / Uber Help:
- Create an order in the Uber Eats app (or Uber / Postmates where applicable).
- Go to checkout.
- Confirm Uber Cash is toggled on and displayed as a payment method.
- Select an American Express Card as the payment method.
- Place the order.
- Uber applies Amex Benefit Cash at point of sale; it shows on the receipt.
If Cash does not cover the full cost, the selected Amex Card is charged the difference. If Uber cannot charge that Amex Card, the Amex Benefit may not apply and another wallet method may be charged.

Uber One tip from terms (related gotcha, not Cash): For the membership statement credit, toggle Uber Cash off for Uber One membership fees so the Amex Card is charged directly. Do not mix that into the Cash redeem checklist without labeling it as the One path.
Amex Credit Intel marketing sometimes stacks both as up to $320/year combined. That is OK as labeled Amex marketing math; keep the how-to benefits separate.
Geographic / account restrictions
- Amex Benefit may only be used in the United States (terms; Credit Intel: generally no international).
- Do not copy Uber One's separate territory exclusions (Northern Mariana, American Samoa, Guam, U.S. Virgin Islands) onto Cash. Cash terms say United States only.
- Account must not be canceled or past due.
- Amex may suspend eligibility for suspected abuse.
Deposit eligibility (not a second $15 per Additional Platinum)
Terms eligibility for $200 Uber Cash: Basic Card Members on a Consumer Platinum or Centurion account and Additional Centurion Members get $15/mo + $20 Dec, plus Signature Support for Amex. Do not claim Additional Platinum Cards each get a separate monthly Cash deposit.
Once Cash is in the Uber account, redemption is Uber-account based (Amex Card selected + Cash toggled on). That is different from Uber One's per Card Account statement-credit share-cap wording (DP2). Do not treat Cash as identical to that DP2 AU-spend-toward-cap pattern.
Signature Support (not Uber VIP)
Eligible Members get Signature Support for Amex (premium phone support including 24/7 live agents), not Uber VIP. Uber Help: effective May 7, 2026, Uber VIP was removed from the $200 Uber Cash benefit and replaced with Signature Support; as of that date UberVIP is no longer available. Prefer terms and Uber Help. Credit Intel FAQ lines that still say "Uber VIP where available" (page last updated April 9, 2026) are stale marketing.

Other household cards (do not invent)
Six-card wallet (article #13): Platinum, CSR, Aspire, CSP, Delta Reserve, Double Cash. See six-card wallet routine.
- No other held card is known to deposit Platinum-style Uber Cash into Uber. Do not invent a second Cash deposit.
- CSR: Lyft $10 monthly (up to $120/year) through 9/30/27; unused at month end is forfeited. Short contrast only: different merchant (Lyft), statement-credit style, not Uber Cash.
- Delta SkyMiles Reserve: rideshare statement credit up to $10/mo on select U.S. rideshare providers (Uber, Lyft, Curb, Alto per terms); enrollment required; researched-only for this household. Different benefit; do not call it Uber Cash.
- Amex Gold ($10/mo Uber Cash on Uber's Amex page) is not a household held card in the six-card routine. Do not imply the household has it.
- Platinum delivery-adjacent benefits are Uber Cash / Uber One. There is no DoorDash statement credit on Consumer Platinum.

Does Eats count without a ride?
Yes. Official Amex and Uber language covers rides and orders / ride or order, with dedicated Uber Eats checkout steps.
Does unused Cash roll to next month?
No. It expires at 11:59 PM Hawaii Standard Time on the last day of each calendar month.
Can I add the Card through Apple Pay to receive Cash?
No. Cards added through a third party or electronic wallet such as Apple Pay or PayPal are not eligible to receive the Amex Benefit. Add the Card directly in Uber.
Is this the same as the Uber One credit?
No. Uber Cash is a monthly deposit into Uber Cash. Uber One is up to $120/calendar year in statement credits toward auto-renewing membership, capped per Card Account.
Do tips or tax count toward Cash spend?
