How we make money: This page has no affiliate, referral, or paid links. We earn nothing if you open, keep, or cancel any card mentioned here. If we ever add a paid link, it will be labeled "Paid link" right next to it, and this box will change. Card terms change often, so check the issuer's site before you book or spend.

Independent site: PointFam is an independent site for families who use cards and points for travel. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by the U.S. Department of Defense or any branch of the U.S. military. None of these cards is an "official" military card. Views are the author's own.

Not advice: Nothing on this page is legal, tax, or financial advice. Credit terms, enrollment rules, and eligibility windows are set by the issuer and can change without notice. Check your own Chase account, Chase Travel booking screens, Amex/Delta companion terms if you hold Delta Reserve, and the current benefit language before you rely on a number below.

Last verified: October 6, 2026. Amounts and stack rules below follow Chase Sapphire Reserve product terms, Chase Edit / travel-credit / 8X education pages, and (for the flight leg) Delta Reserve companion terms we cross-checked that day, plus verified household notes.

Short version: A "free" CSR weekend is almost never zero after companion taxes/fees, hotel taxes/resort fees, car taxes, and the 2-night Pay Now floor. On the hotel side, Chase education says The Edit $250, the 2026 select hotels $250, and leftover $300 anniversary travel credit can stack on one qualifying prepaid stay (full three only if the total exceeds $800). Cars use the same travel credit, earn 8X on unreimbursed Chase Travel cash, and can carry primary CDW. There is no dedicated CSR rental-car statement credit. If you also hold Delta SkyMiles Reserve, the companion certificate is a separate delta.com booking for the same calendar weekend, not one Chase confirmation number.

We use the Chase Sapphire Reserve $300 anniversary travel credit. It auto-applies on travel-category spend. This page does not claim a lived The Edit stay, select-hotels credit burn, Chase Travel car booking, or a weekend that combined those with a Delta companion certificate. Those stay open: Until then, the stack below is researched mechanics: Chase pages say / holders can / companion dig-in says.

Parent card checklist: Chase Sapphire Reserve super guide. Series index: Use Every Benefit. Flight-leg companion mechanics (do not duplicate here): Delta companion certificate family hack. Q4 timing: credits expiring Dec 31 and the Dec 31 tracker. Wallet context: six-card wallet routine and Platinum vs Reserve.

What "free" actually means (read this first)

A $0 weekend is almost never real. Credits can erase large chunks of prepaid hotel and some travel-category spend. A companion certificate can shrink a second eligible fare down to taxes and fees. Neither erases every tax, fee, bag, seat, or car surcharge.

Cost that usually survives Why
Companion ticket taxes/fees Delta/Amex marketing band $22-$250 (up to four segments); terms caps no more than $80 domestic / no more than $250 international. See the companion dig-in and DR4.
Award taxes if extra family on miles Separate award PNR taxes; not erased by CSR hotel credits.
Hotel taxes, resort fees, incidentals Statement credits reimburse eligible prepaid room charges. Chase does not publish a clear rule that every tax/fee/resort/city-tax line is covered. Education stack math uses totals before taxes and fees. Treat full tax-line coverage as not confirmed on the issuer's site, so call to confirm. Property credits and breakfast are Edit on-property benefits, not cash for taxes.
Car taxes, airport fees, fuel, extras The $300 travel credit can reimburse car-rental travel-category spend until exhausted. There is no separate CSR "free rental weekend" statement credit.
Points that do not earn on credited portions The portion that qualifies for the travel credit, Edit credit, or select hotels credit will not earn points.
2-night Pay Now floor Edit and select hotels need prepaid Pay Now stays of 2 nights or more. A true 1-night Saturday crash does not trigger those hotel credits.

This stack can make a weekend cheap. It does not make the weekend free, and it does not put hotel, car, companion, and award kids on one confirmation number.

CSR pieces for a short trip (hotel + car + travel credit)

These are the Chase-side building blocks. Amounts and windows come from CSR product terms. The three-way hotel stack order comes from Chase Edit education.

$300 anniversary travel credit (locked we-use)

  • Up to $300 each account anniversary year (not calendar year).
  • Auto statement credit for travel-category purchases; no enrollment.
  • Merchants include airlines, hotels, car rentals, trains, taxis, parking, tolls, and other travel categories listed on the product page.
  • Credit must be available at the time qualifying purchases are made.
  • Any portion that qualifies does not earn points.
  • Chase Edit education: the travel credit works independently and can reimburse eligible travel purchases including The Edit stays, until the $300 is exhausted for the cardmember year.

Timing trap: Do not confuse the anniversary reset with Edit / select calendar-year caps. Link credits expiring Dec 31 for calendar burn order. Your travel credit may still have balance depending on open date.

We actually use this credit. That is the only first-person hotel/car/companion claim on this page.

The Edit credit (researched)

  • Up to $250 per prepaid booking, up to $500 per calendar year (January 1 through December 31).
  • Starting 1/1/2026 language on CSR terms; calendar year, not halves.
  • Qualifying: prepaid "Pay Now" stays of 2 nights or more through The Edit / Chase Travel.
  • Auto apply; credit must be available at purchase time (purchase date, not stay date).
  • Portion that qualifies does not earn points.
  • Cash + points: Chase Edit education says cash+points is eligible if the cash portion exceeds the $250 credit; points-only bookings are not eligible for the statement credit. Pay Later / pay at property is not eligible.

On-property Edit benefits are separate from the statement credit. Chase pages describe examples such as daily breakfast for two, a property credit, welcome amenity, Wi-Fi, and room upgrade / early check-in / late checkout when available. Those vary by collection and property. Do not treat them as cash for government taxes.

Select Chase Travel hotels credit through 12/31/26 (researched; hard sunset)

  • Up to $250 in statement credits for qualifying prepaid Chase Travel hotel bookings January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2026.
  • Brands named on the CSR page: IHG Hotels & Resorts, Montage, Pendry, Omni, Virgin Hotels, Minor Hotels, Pan Pacific.
  • Same Pay Now + 2-night minimum as Edit.
  • Portion that qualifies does not earn points.
  • Hard end: through 12/31/26. After that date, treat any replacement as unconfirmed until Chase publishes a new primary. Track the window on credits expiring Dec 31 and the Dec 31 tracker.

Chase Travel cars: earn / points stretch (researched; no dedicated car statement credit)

Official on CSR product / education pages:

  • 8X Ultimate Rewards on Chase Travel purchases including car rentals.
  • Car rentals sit in the $300 travel credit eligible merchant category. Chase travel-credit education even uses a car-rental reimbursement example.
  • Primary Auto Rental Coverage up to $75,000 when the entire rental is charged to the card and you decline the counter CDW/LDW (New York residents: secondary inside the U.S.). This is insurance, not a rental credit.

No dedicated CSR personal rental statement credit on the product / benefits pages we checked: no "$X free rental" or monthly car-rental statement credit parallel to Lyft $10. Plan around travel credit + 8X + primary CDW instead.

Elite status (Chase Travel education; enrollment caveats): Chase Travel's "7 Ways" education guide says Sapphire Reserve comes with Emerald Club Executive (National) and Avis Preferred Plus access. Personal product-page legal overlays do not spell a dedicated Avis/National block. Business CSR % base-rate discounts are a different product; they do not transfer to personal. Enrollment path (Chase benefits UI / partner pages) is confirm-at-booking; Mobile walkthroughs from blogs are based on reports, not an official issuer page, only.

Points stretch framing:

  • Book the car via Chase Travel for 8X on the cash portion that does not get eaten by the travel credit.
  • If travel credit still has balance, car spend may auto-reimburse (or share the $300 with hotel/flights). Plan which category burns the anniversary credit.
  • Points Boost (up to 2x redemption value) is marketed for top hotels including The Edit and select airline flights through Chase Travel, not for car rentals.

Delta companion as the flight leg (link the dig-in; do not duplicate)

Full companion mechanics live in the Delta companion certificate family hack. This section only restates what you need for stack honesty.

  1. Taxes/fees still due on the companion ticket. Marketing often shows $22-$250; companion terms cap taxes and fees at no more than $80 domestic / no more than $250 international (up to four segments). Hold both bands in mind.
  2. Exactly two passengers on the companion redemption: same time, same class, same reservation. Pay the primary with Reserve Card and/or matching-name eCredits. Basic experiences and Delta One are ineligible.
  3. Additional award passengers: official companion pages do not document stuffing a third award passenger onto the companion PNR. Treat extras as a separate Award Travel booking.
  4. Geography, cabin, fare-class, and travel-by-date limits follow companion terms (see the dig-in).
  5. Bags follow Basic Card Member rules on that reservation. Bag waivers do not jump across separate PNRs.

Stack architecture: Companion flight = Amex Delta Reserve / delta.com booking. Hotel + car = Chase Travel / The Edit. Same calendar weekend, separate reservations. There is no single Chase itinerary that "includes" the companion certificate.

Weekend stay mismatch: Edit/select need 2 nights Pay Now. Most companion Primary fares require up to a 14-day advance purchase, a 3-night minimum stay, and a 30-day maximum stay, per live Reserve companion T&Cs. A true Sat-Sun hotel stack can fail companion fare rules even when the hotel side is perfect. Hotel 2-night ≠ companion Primary stay.

Stacking matrix (what can combine on one weekend)

A. Chase hotel credit layers (same prepaid stay)

Chase Edit education (published August 10, 2026) states eligible cards have multiple Chase Travel credits that can be stacked.

Layer Cap / window Same prepaid Edit/select stay?
The Edit statement credit Up to $250 per qualifying booking; up to $500 calendar year Yes (first layer)
Select Chase Travel hotels credit Up to $250 through 12/31/26; listed brands; Pay Now 2+ nights Yes, if the property is both in The Edit and a select brand
$300 annual travel credit Up to $300 per anniversary year; travel category Yes per Chase education: applies independently, including Edit stays, until exhausted

Chase education stacking order:

  1. Edit $250 applies first.
  2. Then select hotels $250 if remaining balance qualifies.
  3. Then unused $300 travel credit can cover remaining eligible balance.
  4. Chase note: all three fully applied on one stay only if reservation total exceeds $800.

Product terms set the amounts, windows, and 0-pts rule. Chase Edit education describes the stack order. Credited portions earn 0 Ultimate Rewards; remaining cash on Chase Travel earns 8X.

Cannot: Apply two Edit $250 credits to the same single booking (cap is $250 per prepaid booking; $500/year across bookings). Back-to-back 2-night split bookings to burn both Edit credits on one hotel visit are a community tactic based on reports, not an official issuer page, only. Chase primary does not clearly allow or forbid that tactic. Treat it as not confirmed, not a Chase-approved playbook.

B. Same weekend, separate bookings (combine, not one PNR)

Piece Booking channel Combines with hotel stack how?
Delta companion pair delta.com / Amex Reserve cert Same trip dates; separate from Chase hotel
Extra family on SkyMiles awards Separate award PNR (companion dig-in) Separate again
Chase Travel rental car Chase Travel Separate reservation; may share the $300 travel credit pool with hotel
Lyft to airport Lyft app (monthly credit if still live) Optional; not required for this stack

C. Conflicts / traps (keep these honest)

  1. Anniversary vs calendar: Edit/select reset January 1; travel credit resets on open-date anniversary. Burning all three on one January stay can empty calendar hotel credits early and also empty anniversary travel credit mid-cycle.
  2. Select hotels sunset: Book the purchase by 12/31/26 under the Pay Now rule. Credit must be available at qualifying purchase time through that date.
  3. Pay Later / pay at property: Not Edit/select eligible.
  4. Points-only Edit booking: Not statement-credit eligible.
  5. Credits vs points: Credited portions earn 0 UR; remaining cash on Chase Travel earns 8X.
  6. Companion class / geography / Basic ban: Can kill the cheap flight leg even when the hotel stack is perfect.
  7. Companion advance purchase / min stay: A "weekend" companion itinerary may fail Primary fare rules even if the hotel is 2 nights.
  8. Edit property credit does not pay companion taxes.
  9. MLA / annual fee: Out of scope here beyond soft independence. Fee-waiver math is not part of this weekend stack.

Worked EXAMPLE structure (placeholders only)

Label clearly: EXAMPLE. The round numbers below are structure only, not live quotes or verified rates.

Scenario shape (fictional round numbers):

  1. Hotel (Chase Travel / The Edit + select brand): EXAMPLE prepaid Pay Now 2-night total $H before deciding what taxes display as.

    • Apply up to $250 Edit.
    • If select brand and still in 2026: apply up to $250 select.
    • If anniversary travel credit still available: up to $300 may apply per Chase education stack.
    • Max illustrated Chase hotel-layer offset if all three full: $800 (only if $H > $800).
    • Out-of-pocket hotel ≈ $H - applied credits (+ any tax/fee lines credits do not cover). Tax treatment of those lines stays not confirmed on the issuer's site unless Chase publishes a clearer rule.
  2. Flight (Delta companion pair): EXAMPLE primary fare $F paid with Reserve Card/eCredits + companion taxes/fees in the $22-$250 marketing band (use terms caps in prose). Out-of-pocket flight ≈ $F + companion taxes (+ bags if not waived).

  3. Car (Chase Travel): EXAMPLE rental $C. Either burns remaining travel credit or earns 8X on unreimbursed cash. Insurance = primary CDW path (decline counter CDW), not a credit.

  4. Total EXAMPLE out-of-pocket: hotel remainder + flight primary + companion taxes + car remainder + incidentals. Do not headline the EXAMPLE as a "$0 weekend."

  5. Optional: a second Edit booking later in the calendar year for the second $250 (separate booking; not two Edit credits on one reservation).

Weekend booking path

  1. Check CSR anniversary travel-credit balance and calendar Edit / select balances in Chase benefits UI.
  2. Search Chase Travel for a property that is both The Edit and (if still 2026) a select brand; confirm Pay Now, 2+ nights, and cancel policy.
  3. Book hotel with CSR (cash, or cash+points with cash above $250 if chasing the Edit credit).
  4. Separately price a Delta companion-eligible itinerary (see the companion dig-in); confirm certificate travel-by date and Primary fare rules for a short trip, including the common 3-night min stay.
  5. Book car on Chase Travel if needed; decide whether to preserve travel credit for hotel vs car. Confirm Avis/National status in Chase benefits UI at booking if you rely on the education claim.
  6. Track statement credits (Chase education often says typically 3-5 days; allow longer).
  7. At the hotel: confirm Edit on-property benefits and any loyalty number if a Loyalty Plus flag appears on the booking. Loyalty Plus earn rates are property-specific; check the booking, not a blog guess.

Gotchas checklist

  1. Calling it free when taxes/fees remain.
  2. 1-night stay (fails Edit/select).
  3. Pay Later (fails Edit/select).
  4. Points-only Edit (fails statement credit).
  5. Assuming two Edit credits on one reservation.
  6. Treating back-to-back Edit splits as a verified Chase-approved tactic.
  7. Missing select-hotels 12/31/26 purchase window.
  8. Emptying the $300 travel credit on random taxis before the weekend hotel.
  9. Expecting one PNR for Chase hotel + Delta companion.
  10. Stuffing an award third passenger on the companion PNR without official support.
  11. Ignoring companion Basic / Delta One / codeshare / geography limits.
  12. Expecting bag waivers when the Basic Card Member is not on that PNR.
  13. Expecting a CSR rental-car statement credit.
  14. Expecting Points Boost on cars.
  15. Treating Chase education stack example dollars as a live quote for a named hotel.
  16. Assuming companion Primary fare always matches a 2-night Edit weekend.
  17. Assuming every hotel tax/resort line is guaranteed covered by statement credits.

Where this sits in the wallet / series

This dig-in owns the weekend multi-benefit stack under the CSR super guide. The Delta companion dig-in owns certificate mechanics. A deeper CSR benefit-hacks dig (Edit/Apple/portal mechanism encyclopedia) is separate and not this page. An Amex Platinum weekend-for-free twin may ship later as its own stack. That twin uses Amex hotel credits, not Chase Edit / select hotels. Keep the two stacks separate.

Series index: Use Every Benefit. Calendar burn order: credits expiring Dec 31 and the Dec 31 tracker. Wallet placement: six-card wallet routine and Platinum vs Reserve.

FAQ

Can Edit + select + the $300 travel credit all hit one hotel stay?
Chase Edit education says yes on a qualifying prepaid Pay Now stay at a property that is both The Edit and a select brand, with Edit first, then select, then leftover travel credit. Full three only if the total exceeds $800. Product terms define each credit separately and do not contradict.

Is there a free CSR rental-car credit?
No dedicated personal rental statement credit on the product pages we checked. Use travel credit + 8X + primary CDW.

Can I put the Delta companion on the same Chase hotel confirmation?
No. Companion is an Amex/delta.com booking. Hotel and car are Chase Travel. Same weekend, separate reservations.

Does a 2-night Edit stay always unlock a companion weekend?
No. Most companion Primary fares need up to 14-day advance and a 3-night minimum stay. Check fare rules before you lock the hotel.

Are points-only Edit bookings credit-eligible?
No. Cash+points works when cash exceeds $250. Points-only and Pay Later do not.

Does Points Boost apply to Chase Travel cars?
Not on the official hotels/flights marketing we checked. Cars are outside that Points Boost pitch.

Will statement credits cover every hotel tax line?
Chase does not publish a clear tax-line rule. Education examples use totals before taxes and fees. Treat guaranteed full tax coverage as not confirmed on the issuer's site, so call to confirm.
